Abstract
Rape crimes require forensic medical examinations of victims, who may present injuries depending on the type and violence of the act committed. The medico-legal examination assists in establishing the materiality of the criminal act and in determining authorship, since the victim’s body may contain traces directly related to the aggressor. Therefore, this study aims to analyze medico-legal reports related to sexual crimes (Articles 213 and 217-A) recorded at the 1st Regional Coordination of the Technical-Scientific Police of Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiás, between January 1 and December 31, 2019, in order to discuss the profile of victims and their aggressors, as well as the contribution of the forensic report to the analyzed cases. A total of 150 reports were analyzed (59 rape cases and 91 statutory rape cases). There was a predominance of young female victims between 10 and 21 years old. Most aggressors were male and known to the victims. In general, there was a low rate of genital and bodily injuries, which makes it difficult to establish the materiality of the crime and identify the perpetrator; this may be due to libidinous acts that leave no traces or to the time elapsed between the notification and the crime. Some cases showed errors in the registration of the criminal classification and absence of ethnicity data for victims in a large number of cases, which may hinder the development of public policies for the prevention of and assistance to victims of sexual abuse.
