Abstract
The article entitled “Profile of Sexual Violence Against Women in the Federal District”, written by Gomes et al. (2024), offers a significant contribution to the debate on sexual violence. The study conducted by the authors aimed to characterize the profile of sexual violence against women in the Federal District. To achieve this objective, 3,392 reports from SICOLA (Report Control System) of the Institute of Legal Medicine, referring to the years 2015 to 2017, were analyzed. The research methodology adopted was quantitative, considered highly relevant for this type of academic production, since it included medical analyses and results derived from reports and investigations, providing comprehensive and detailed data regarding sexual violence in the region. The tables used to present the research findings are easy to interpret, facilitating the understanding of how cases of sexual violence against women developed in the Federal District. The study is fundamental because it provides data that contribute to the development of effective public policies in the Federal District, given that it offers precise information focused on the regional profile, enabling the establishment of local action plans. Supporting this perspective, some Brazilian states are developing public policies aimed at protecting women against sexual violence. For example, in the State of Minas Gerais, the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) promoted three months of discussions involving members of the Civil Police Department and the Human Rights Secretariat to create measures for the development of the Decennial Public Policy Plan for Women, which establishes priorities through 2029. Overall, the content is easy to understand, and the authors demonstrated concern in explaining in detail how sexual violence against women is characterized, thereby encouraging other professionals to conduct similar studies in their respective states and regions.
