Case Report: Necropsy Aspects of Sudden Death Due to Congenital Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Abstract

Objective: To report a case of death following an assault involving a frontal injury, discussing the findings described in the
autopsy reports, which revealed sudden death as the cause of death. Case Description: The subject was a male who suffered a
punch to the frontal region and died at the scene. Autopsy findings were incompatible with death caused by external trauma, as
the injuries were non-lethal. The investigation led to a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an autosomal dominant genetic disorder affecting cardiac proteins, resulting in structural changes that may lead to sudden death in some patients. Final Considerations: The autopsy findings allowed concluding that the cause of death was associated with the presence of cardiac disease, although it did not exclude the association with the violent event.
