Abstract
The present study is an analysis of the application of forensic entomology in cases of violent or suspicious death examined by the Criminalistics Center of João Pessoa. A total of 40 forensic reports containing entomological information issued by the sector between 2016 and 2018 were analyzed. Overall, 10 Diptera species and one Coleoptera species were used for postmortem interval (PMI) estimation. Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann, 1819), Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius, 1794), and Peckia chrysostoma (Wiedemann, 1830) were the most frequent species. This study presents the first record of Hydrotaea aenescens (Wiedemann, 1830), Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann, 1830), and P. chrysostoma being used for PMI estimation in Brazil.
