Abstract
According to the WHO, suicide has proven to be a serious global health problem, already showing as the second most common cause of death among young people in the world. From a sample of suicide scene reports, occurred in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, some information was extracted such as the individual's sex, method employed, preservation state and instrument used, allowing the comparison with samples published by other entities. In the sample analyzed, 80.9% of suicide cases were committed by men, aligned with data for the country, provided by OSM, and for the region of backlands of Paraíba. Furthermore, it found out that hanging is the most common method used for committing suicide in the capital of São Paulo, representing 55.9% of cases, and the incomplete suspension prevails over complete suspension, achieving more than 72% of the cases analyzed.
