Abstract
The present case study reports four suicides by sodium nitrite ingestion in the Campinas/SP area. Sodium Nitrite ingestion as means of self-elimination has shown to be a new trend among adolescents and young adults, that has been spreading through online forums, text message groups and social media in Brazil and worldwide. The increase in this type of case demands an integrated action from public health and public safety authorities to identify traces of this practice, enabling the investigation of possible participants and suicide induction networks, as well as supporting public policies to promote mental health and prevent suicide.
