Aplicação da radiação infravermelha na identificação de adulterações em documentos: estudos de casos

Abstract

This paper brings together a set of case studies about the application of infrared radiation as an assertive tool in identifying signs of adulteration in documents. The analyzes were carried out using optical equipment available at the Center for Forensic Expertise in Ribeirão Preto, allowing the observation of the examined materials both under visible light and under infrared radiation. The procedures applied were non-destructive and the analysis of the various materials showed that the application of infrared luminescence allowed, in some cases, to differentiate visually identical ballpoint pen ink, based on their physicochemical properties in the emission of light energy. Other materials, however, demonstrated indistinguishable optical luminescence profiles. In these cases, the potential of the infrared radiation absorption property in revealing characteristics of document adulteration was demonstrated highlighting graphoscopic elements, such as the pressure of the tracing on the paper.
